The objective of this campaign was to create an identity for the Town of Selma that was both true to their history as a railroad town, and attractive to potential new business.
The circular shape is reminiscent of the front headlight of a train, while the white bars play as an homage to the train tracks that are so important to Selma's history. I included the established year as a direct demonstration of the importance of their heritage.
The colors signify warmth, openness, and industry. The stoic and structured typeface Gin combined with the softer serif typeface Birch give the town an upscale, industrial feel.
The Life and Death of the American Hipster is an editorial about the "Hipster" trend popularized by American millennials.
The challenge of the layout was to combine typography and illustration that satirized the cultural trend and reflected the title, while using key imagery associated with the community.
Twisted Vine Winery is a winery and bottling company in Lenoir, North Carolina. The company wanted to shape it's brand with a personality that better represented their roots in their hometown by giving them a warm, home-grown country feel. To achieve this, I redesigned the Winery's logo with typography reminiscent of a traditional southern heritage. The water color style illustrations reflect the life of a farmer. The cloth texture of the wine labels reflect the winery's sensibilities as small vineyard bottling on site.
The objective of this campaign was to design a special edition video game launch kit to be released as a pre-order. The kit included multiple items that tie to the video game brand, including a t-shirt, stickers, a full color poster, and toy bear tied to the game's central story.
The story and subsequent package design is rooted in the aesthetic of a dystopian political thriller. The clean lines within the Protocol logo combined with the gritty artwork are meant to reflect the tension conceptualized within the storyline.
Forage is an app concept designed to make health food accessible to larger audiences. It would allow users to photograph natural plants and nuts which would then be identified through the app's identification software.
By linking with the Department of Agriculture's plant database, the app can give information on potential culinary uses or hazards associated with the photographed plant. This is expanded on with a social feature, which allows users to ask questions about any of their foraged items and share recipes on popular social media accounts or through a built-in user forum. The minimal interface allows straightforward usability by quickly delivering nutritional facts and information about foraged items .
The Buddhist monks have been making and brewing their own tea for over two thousand years. This served as inspiration for the Three Monks tea branding and packaging. The challenge of this project was to create a brand consistent package designs for three types of tea that would be appealing for young women.
The tea packaging uses hand drawn illustrations of everyday objects associated with Buddhist culture and ties them with their specific flavor of tea. The simple illustrations, iconography of the brewing instructions, and matte packaging all serve to distinguish the brand from typical tea packages found in food stores.
The Ampersand Annual Report was an exercise in limited color palettes and typography driven design. By limiting the color palette, I was able to better capture an old-fashioned feeling for a type foundry, while making it feel sleek and modern through the use of the two typefaces.
The Face Forward Music Alliance is a pro LGBTQ+ organization dedicated to promoting equal opportunities within the arts. While they serve individuals in all creative fields, the seeds of the organization were sown in Raleigh's punk rock scene, and the brand emulates that history.
The branding and merchandise makes use of gritty textures and handwritten typography to reflect their roots in alternative cultures.
